Bernstein-Greene-Kruskal (BGK) waves are inhomogenous equilibria of the Vlasov-Poisson system in one space dimension. Despite their importance, the stability of BGK waves are  largely open. In this talk, I will  talk about the stability of homogeneous equilibria (Landau damping) and the stability of small BGK waves. This is joint work with D. Bian, E. Grenier and B. Pausader.
